Product licensing
Each annual software license is active for one year from the date of purchase.
During the active period, registered users have access to all the benefits and
features listed below.

Benefits
Licensing Lumerical's design solutions on an annual basis carries many associated
benefits. Those benefits include:
- Premium support plan: Customers are always covered under a comprehensive
support plan and have access to prompt and expert technical assistance.

- Product upgrades: Customers always have access to the latest simulation
technology provided by Lumerical's ambitious product development efforts.
Product upgrades are designed based on your feedback (see our
Opportunity Knocks program) and are available for free
during the active license period.
- Lower cost of entry: Licensing software annually provides a much more
cost effective entry point than paying large perpetual license fees.
- A dependable partner: As Lumerical must
earn your business year over year, you can be assured that our product
development efforts and technical support services will be prompt,
relevant, and of the highest quality.
- Affords greater flexibility and cost effectiveness: With Lumerical's
annual license, you can modify the number of licenses you need each year
depending on the status and nature of your current project. This means
that you only pay for access to our design products when you need them.
Annual license types
Lumerical offers three different types of licenses:
A - The Portable License. Lumerical's Portable License allows whichever computer has the USB hardware key / dongle attached to
it to run the software. Both single processor and parallel processor
installations (if applicable) are included.
B - The Floating License. With the Floating License,
Lumerical's license manager LM Solutions is installed on a network server.
When another computer on that network tries to run the software, it
queries the license manager to see if there are any available licenses.
If licenses are available, that computer may start the software. For
multiple licenses, more than one simulation may be running at any one
time, with the upper limit of the number of simultaneous simulations
limited only by the total number of licenses purchased.
C - The Engine License (FDTD Solutions only). Lumerical's
innovative Engine License allows the state-of-the-art parallel FDTD Solutions
engine to be installed on a dedicated computational system such as a
cluster or multi-processor workstation. An additional separate
portable or floating license is also required to run the
user-interface, usually on a separate workstation. Multiple Engine
