The Lumerical/WestGrid partnership
Overview
Lumerical has teamed up with WestGrid to provide access to powerful electromagnetic simulation
capabilities for current customers and trial users who are researchers at Canadian universities.
In exchange for access to these facilities, participating
researchers must cite usage of WestGrid and FDTD Solutions in their publications and presentations.
User Access
The parallel
computational engine is available and restricted to ten concurrent simulations. Each simulation can use an unrestricted
number of nodes.
In order to submit jobs to WestGrid, customers and trial users must use their own copy of the FDTD Solutions user
interface to create the simulation file that will be submitted to WestGrid.
Lumerical's Role
Lumerical provides the parallel version of its FDTD Solutions simulation software.
Current Canadian academic customers and trial users of FDTD Solutions can directly
access the parallel computational engine on WestGrid.
WestGrid's Role
WestGrid supplies the high-performance computing hardware. The WestGrid cluster upon which the software is
installed is called glacier.
How Does It Work?
- If you are not already familiar with FDTD Solutions, Lumerical recommends that interested
parties first get familiar with the single-processor version of
FDTD Solutions by taking advantage of our 30 day trial evaluation (request a free trial).
At the end of the 30 day evaluation period, continued usage of FDTD Solutions on WestGrid requires that
Canadian academics purchase a license from Lumerical.
- The layout editor is used on a local machine, and the simulation files are transmitted to the WestGrid
system for simulation.
- Once the simulation is complete, the simulation data must be transferred back to a local machine.
