Supported OS roadmap – Windows XP end of life

Support for Windows XP has ended.  As previously announced, the 2015a release in November 2014 (FDTD Solutions 8.11, MODE Solutions 7.5, DEVICE 4.5, INTERCONNECT 4.5) was the last version to officially support Windows XP.  Future versions, including the recent 2015b release, do not include support for Windows XP.

Note: Windows Server 2003 was never an officially supported operating system, but given its similarities with Windows XP, Lumerical’s software typically ran on Windows Server 2003 without issue.  As support for Windows XP is removed from future versions, Lumerical’s software will no longer run on Windows Server 2003.

Licensing notice - 2014a release - FlexNet LM v1.2.0+ required

Product architecture changes in the upcoming 2014a product release will require customers using the Lumerical FlexNet License Manager v1.1.8 and older to upgrade their FlexNet license manager.   FlexNet version 1.2.0 and higher are compatible with the 2014a release.  We recommend upgrading to version 1.3.0, which will be available with the 2014a product release.

The license update is free to all MODE Solutions customers.  For accounts using the FlexNet license manager, the primary contact for your account will receive the license update by email before May 21, 2014.  For accounts still using a legacy licensing option (eg USB key), please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Transition to FlexNet Licensing - 2014a release update

As described in prior communications, Lumerical is transitioning to the FlexNet license manager for our product licensing.  Support for legacy licensing technologies (ie. USB keys) is being phased out. The last three product releases supported both FlexNet and USB key based licenses to provide time for the transition to FlexNet.

The upcoming 2014a product release in May 2014 (FDTD Solutions v8.8, MODE Solutions v7.0, DEVICE 4.0, INTERCONNECT 4.0) only support FlexNet.  Customers still using a Legacy licensing technology have two options:

  1. Switch to FlexNet now.  This will allow you to upgrade to the latest product version.
  2. Continue using your existing license.* You will not be able to upgrade to the newest product version.

* Your license will be automatically converted to a FlexNet based license during your next license anniversary.

Additional information can be found here.  If you would like to upgrade to FlexNet immediately, or if you have any further questions, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Transition to FlexNet Licensing – 2013c release update

Lumerical is transitioning to the FlexNet Licensing platform for our product licensing.  Legacy licensing options (HASP USB keys and the Legacy Lumerical LM) are being decommissioned.  The transition to FlexNet was motivated by several factors, including the desire to use a mature, industry standard licensing technology.  Many customers already use FlexNet to license other products, particularly in high performance computing (HPC) environments.  The FlexNet license manager supports a wide range of configuration options, such as defining lists of authorized users, reserving licenses, etc. Order fulfillment is also greatly simplified; the costs and delays associated with shipping a physical USB key no longer exist because FlexNet is a software based licensing technology.

This transition started one year ago with the initial launch of the Lumerical FlexNet license manager and initial support in our products during the November 2012 release.  Full support for FlexNet was introduced in the products in the May 2013 release.  Currently, all new customers are issued FlexNet licenses.  Existing customers will be upgraded to FlexNet when their licenses are renewed. Customers with multi-year licenses will be upgraded at the next anniversary of their license.  Current versions of our products and the next release (November 2013) support both the new FlexNet license manager and the legacy licensing options.  Our intention is to remove support for the legacy licensing options in future releases.  Customers using old versions (such as FDTD Solutions 7.5 and 8.0) will need to upgrade to a newer version to use the FlexNet license manager.

Additional information can be found here.  If you would like to upgrade to FlexNet immediately, or if you have any further questions, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Supported OS roadmap - Linux 32 bit end-of-life begins
